Xenvora grew out of years spent on the editing side of Kenyan newsrooms — the part of journalism that rarely gets its own attention.

IN EDITORIAL PRACTICE
Xenvora began as a set of notes one editor kept on the patterns she saw again and again in reporters' work — not mistakes exactly, more like habits that hadn't been named yet. Over time those notes turned into sessions, and the sessions turned into a small practice.
We work mostly with independent reporters and small outlets, because that's where editorial support tends to be thinnest, even though the stakes of getting it right are just as high as anywhere else.
What drives the work is fairly plain: a well-reported story deserves a reader who actually finishes it, and that outcome depends on more craft decisions than most reporters have time to notice on their own.

Feedback that changes criteria every time it's given isn't useful. We apply the same standards session after session.

We advise; we don't rewrite a reporter's voice into our own. The goal is sharper work that still sounds like them.

We say plainly what a session can and can't cover, so nobody pays for more than what's actually offered.
